After talking with the OSPA team on NPR Planet Money, Dan Charles continued to investigate the challenges renewable energy projects face in connecting to the National Grid via the Southwest Power Pool.
OSPA talked with the NPR Planet Money team about our challenges in connecting our two wind farms to the National Grid. OSPA is resilient though, and we have learned to be flexible, innovative, and persistent in facing any development challenge to fulfilling our vision. We are reviewing our projects with a goal to reapply for interconnection early next year.
Wind and solar power generators wait in yearslong bureaucratic lines to connect to the power grid, only to be faced with fees they can’t afford, forcing them to scramble for more money or pull out of projects completely.
